We are having too little Internet access and not enough time (cause we 're having so much fun) to post entries so details will have to wait until we have more time and access.
Meanwhile here are some pics and brief labels.
A self-guided walking tour of the trendy neighborhood of Paddington neighborhood of Sydney, quite near to where we're staying
Notice the french grill work, reminiscent of New Orleans
Averuy nice Aussie vet trying to talk us into taking a tour of the Victoria Barracks, but we had lots planned and the tour was going to be an hour and a half (once it got started), so we passed. He gave Therese a piece of wild Rosemary (for remembrance), an Aussie tradition.
The barracks, still an active military post, so we couldn't walk around unless on a tour.
A huge fig-tree behind the Barracks walls
On our way to the city-suburb of Paramatta on the very fast river cat ferry
Cockatoo Island on the way up the Paramatta River
The Olympic Village on the Paramatta River
Arriving at Paramatta; lunch on the river.
The gates to Government House
Sulfur-crested Cockatoos (as common as pigeons, but far noisier) on the lawn of Government House
Government House
After walking around Paramatta, looking for historic sites aming the modern buildings, we decided to take the train back to Sydney.
The shops in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney
Stauined glass windows in the QV Building
Looking down the staircase of the QV Building
We walked over to the incredible Sydney Aquarium in Darling Harbor. Here, our photos don't do the experience justice. (Details to come.)
Darling Harbor by night; ate a great seafood dinner at Jordon's (recommended by our friend Gilly and her son, Gideon who assured us that the oysters were great.)
Sydney by night from Darling Harbor
Took the light rail back to Central Station from which we walked to our hotel.
Public Transport for the day:
- Bus from Paddington to Circular Quay
- River Cat (catamaran ferry) from Circular Quay to Paramatta
- City Rail from Paramatta to CBD
- Light Rail from Darling Harbor to Central Station
Only thing we missed was the monorail from CBD to Darling Harbor; we walked.
