Australian Sea Lion Ranger-led Tour
The Ranger was very informative, but rather bitter and bossy---you wouldn't want to be married to him!
More to come on the breeding and child-rearing of these incredible creatures.
Where's my Mom?
She was up here just a moment ago!
Wahhh! I want my mommy
Ah, there she is!
Had enough for now; time for a snooze.
Mmmm, Maybe just a little more.
Time for some fun!
A frolic in the water
A little playful practice fighting with some friends
Hey, don't get so rough; we have 7 years before we have to do this for real!
As Therese's neice, Rachael, would say: They're so cute!!!!!!!
Stretching their necks
Time for lunch. Australian Silver Gulls may be Pprettier than our Herring Gulls, but they're just as demanding and annoying when you're trying to eat lunch near the sea.
Some animals we saw in the wild along the way to the Flinders Chase National Park near where we would spend the night.
Koalas
Kangaroos
Cape Barren Geese (only some 6000 in the world, apparently)
many of them here, but quite shy
With daylight savings time, we were able to do a fast-paced late-afternoon hike through the Snake Lagoon area of Flinders Chase, recovering and recently reopened after a devastating fire last January destroyed most of its trees.
Ending at a secluded beach, which, we'd been warned by other hikers had somewhat tricky tidal currents.
We turned back just shy of the beach so we could get to Admiral's Arch and the seals before sunset.
The fire spared this area
But not this one
A Goanna
The road out of Snake Lagoon area
"Remarkable Rocks" from afar
The Remarkable Rocks closer up
Admiral's Arch area
New Zealand Fur Seals resting near Admiral's Arch
Cavorting

Really showing off (videos to come)
Sunset through Admiral's Arch
How Admiral's Arch and other rock formations in the area came to be
Wave energy
Sunset
After a tense slow drive through the dark---narrowly avoiding all sorts of animals on or by the road--- a well-deserved romantic late meal brought to us in our room at the Wilderness Retreat.
